The Scripture Corner

Some folks say they would like to do volunteer work when they retire. Just to spend some
free time usefully. But I say, why wait till you retire, do it now. I’ve heard it said that it
increases your self-esteem when you do something for someone else. Well, it’s true and it
does other things for you as well. It takes your mind off your problems, which when
constantly thought about can become much too large to handle yourself. It’s one thing
to plan how you will solve a difficulty, but it’s even better to trust the Lord with your
problems. He is wonderfully able to answer the dilemma’s without your help, thank you
very much!! So instead of obsessing over your problems, get busy helping someone else
and give your problems to Him. According to Daniel 3:17, our God was able to deliver the
3 Hebrew children from the blazing furnace that they were going to be thrown into.
Because they wouldn’t worship the golden image of King Nebuchadnezzar the penalty
was the fiery furnace. God can rescue us,they said, but even if He doesn’t He will be with
us through it and we’ll come out without even smelling of smoke like the 3 Hebrews came
out of the furnace that the King put them in. When you focus on Him instead of your
problem, you’re bringing Him glory by trusting Him to save you. For the Lord knows He
has a good plan for your future, it’s a plan to give you a hope,it’s not a plan to harm
you. He knew about your problem even before you were born. He sees the end from the
begining and knows exactly what you need before you even pray. (see Jeremiah 29:11-14)
So when you are busy helping others while your problem seems to be getting worse. He
can work His miracles for you because you’re out of His way. The best thing for you is to
put J.O.Y

Could You Be Lactose Intolerant?

Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest significant amounts of lactose, the
predominant sugar of milk.
This inability results from a shortage of the enzyme lactose. Lactose breaks down milk
sugar into simpler forms that can be absorbed by the bloodstream. When there is not
enough lactose to digest the amount of lactose consumed, the results, although not usually
dangerous, may be very distressing.
Common symptoms include nausea, cramps, bloating, gas, and diarrhea, which
begins about 30 min. to 2 hours after eating or drinking foods containing lactose.
Milk and dairy products usually cause the most distress, but milk and milk products are
often added to prepared foods, so ingredients on food labels should be read.
The most common tests that measure lactose absorption are the lactose tolerance
test, the hydrogen breath test, and the stool acidity test. These can be ordered by your
doctor, and can be done on an outpatient basis.
Fortunately lactose intolerance is relatively easy to treat. Symptoms can usually be
controlled through diet. Limiting milk and dairy products, or using lactose-reduced
products can help. Lactose enzyme tablets are available without a prescription. The
tablets are taken with the first bite of dairy foods.
When dairy products are restricted, calcium needs to be replaced in the diet.
Eating green vegetables and fish
such as salmon are good choices.
If you think you may be lactose intolerant, ask your doctor to be tested. Your
doctor can suggest what dietary changes are best for you, and you can begin to feel a lot
more comfortable.
