The Scripture Corner

Shortly after the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, the Lord announced to them that
He was Jehovah-Rophe, the Lord who heals you. He said that if they obeyed all
His commands and His decrees he would not bring on them any of the diseases that
He brought on the Egyptians. Some preachers tell you that its your right as a
believer to be healed. It’s not a right it’s a blessing from the Lord. There is
nothing that will force God’s hand. It doesn’t stand to reason that believers will
not get sick. We live in a sin-stained world. In Exodus 15:22-27 it tells the story
of the bitter waters at Marah. The people grumbled to Moses that they had
nothing to drink. So Moses cried out to the Lord and He showed him a piece of
wood that would sweeten the waters. Right there the Lord tested them. Would
they be obedient to Him and keep His laws? If so, He wouldn’t bring any of the
diseases on them. Sometimes we’re obedient to Him and we still get sick. Only
when the Lord comes back for us will we be completely healed. God reminded
Israel that He controlled the health of the people, just as He controls the wealth
or any blessing. Deuteronomy 8:18 says, “But remember the Lord your God, for it
is He who gives you ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant,
which He swore to your forefathers, as it is today.” We must surrender all our
money, and for that matter everything we have because it is all His anyway. The
bible talks about the “tithe” which is 1/10 but the other 9/10 is His also. If you
dedicate everything you are and have to Him He’ll bless you abundantly. Maybe
not in money but He’ll give you what you need to live. See Malachi 3:10. He says
test me in this and see if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out so
much blessing that you’ll not have room enough to receive it. In verse 8 He says,
“ Will a man rob God? But you ask, “How do we rob you?” And then God says, In
tithes and offerings and He tells them they’re under a curse. A tithe is just the
beginning of your giving. Then there’s offerings. The Lord loves a cheerful
giver. He wants you to give because you want to help someone. God doesn’t
want or need your money. It’s a test to see if you’ll obey His Word. You
certainly can’t out give God! Don’t give for what you’ll get, give because you
love God and then your motives will be pure.

Nurse’s Nook
by
Kathy Dixon

The scenario is all too familiar. You feel a tingling on your lip, and a small hard spot you
can’t see. Sure enough in a day or two a red blister appears on your lip. It’s another cold
sore, probably happening at a bad time, and there is no way to make it go away quickly.
Cold sores or fever blisters are very common, affecting tens of millions of Americans. A
form of the Herpes Simplex virus causes cold sores, and they are contagious. They
usually last 7 to 10 days. Cold sores usually appear on the lips, but can also occur on
nostrils, cheeks, or fingers. Once you have had an episode of cold sores, the virus lies
dormant in the nerve cells of your skin, and may emerge again as an active infection on or
near the original site.
Treatment of cold sores include over the counter creams and pain relievers to provide
comfort, or prescription antibacterial medications such as Valtrex, Zovirax, and Famvir.
Also avoiding triggers such as stress, fever, or overexposure to sunlight or cold.
You can take steps to guard against cold sores, to prevent spreading them to other parts
of the body, or to avoid passing them along to another person.
1. Avoid kissing or skin contact while blisters are present.
2. Avoid sharing food or drinks.
3. Wash hands carefully before touching another person.
4. Be careful about touching other parts of your body or face.
5. Avoid situations that trigger cold sores, such as cold or sun.
6. Use sunblock on your lips and face before sun exposure.
7. Get enough sleep, and avoid stressors.
8. Eat a balanced diet.
9. Avoid squeezing or picking the blisters.
10. If cold sore becomes infected, see your Doctor.
