What’s Happening by Rita Sweeney
November 19-We had our Thanksgiving Dinner. Carol B.’s granddaughter Ciara
whispered grace very nicely. There were 66 in total for dinner. It was a wonderful meal.
There was ham, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, cranberry
sauce, pickles, olives and rolls. There was even punch with sherbet in it. The wide variety
of pies were delicious. There was even left-overs for Tuesday’s supper. Thanks to all that
helped make it special!
Joke of the Month by Wendy B.
This guy goes out in the street and meets his buddy. He says to him, “I just bought a new
hearing aid for $1,200.” His buddy says, “Oh really, what kind is it? He says, “4:30!”

The Scripture Corner
Jesus the Messiah’s birth was foretold thousands of years before. The anointed ones
coming was announced in Genesis 3:15. In Isaiah 7:14 it foretells that a virgin will be with
child and give birth to a son and He’ll be called God with us. Then in Isaiah 9:6 the
prophet tells of a son being given and that the government will be upon His shoulders.
His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of
Peace. God’s Word says He will reign on David’s throne and it will never end. Even the
town of birth was announced in Micah 5:2, Bethlehem means house of bread because Jesus
is the Bread of Life. This town was His birthplace because He was from the line of David.
Mary went with Joseph for the census probably because they both knew Messiah was to be
born in Bethlehem. Also, they didn’t want to be separated before the birth. Bethlehem
was also Joseph’s ancestral home. In Luke 2:8-14 the shepherds were visited by an angel
that told them not to fear. The message was that a Savior was born! This was good news
of a great joy! Throughout the gospel of Luke joy is often associated with salvation.
This news was to be for all the people, a hint that God’s salvation was for all mankind.
The shepherds were the first to proclaim Messiah’s birth. And this is why Christmas is
such a joyous time in the church year! Jesus is the only Savior for a sin-sick world.
Accept Him for yourself as your sin-bearer and rejoice in His coming. Have a Blessed
Christmas season.
