hat’s Happening by Rita Sweeney
· July 26-Carol B. took a bus to Columbus Ohio. She went to see her youngest nephew
get married. The trip and wedding will stay with her a long time. The wedding was
beautiful. This was a “once in a lifetime” trip!
· August 6-Some members went to Stewart’s. Arlene, Frannie, Wendy, Bob, Lillian and
of course Marie. She’s the driver! They had burgers and ice cream. The food there is
very good. Maybe next time they can play miniature golf.
· August 15-The Hometown Auction trip went off without a hitch. Marie, Theresa, Bob,
Carol L., Jen and Sharon shopped there. Jen got new sneakers for school. Theresa
shopped for bargains on produce.
· August 16-The trip to Knoebal’s was a great success!! There were about 34 members
who went. Some took their cars. Even the group from Nanticoke were there! We had
a new rule for trips this time. Everyone had to Buddy Up. The weather was splendid.
Not a drop of rain fell on us even though they were calling for thunderstorms. This is
the one trip everyone looks forward to every year! Everyone saves up their “Drop-In
$$’s for spending at Knoebal’s!
· August 20-The trip scheduled for Community Park was chan-ged to Wal-Mart. The
weather-man was calling for rain.
The Scripture Corner
Though we frequently experience anxiety, that fear when things don’t go our way, God
promises to take care of us, Matthew 6:25-34. He cares for nature and He cares for
us,also. The answer to worry is to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and He
promises all these things will be added to you.If we put Him and His kingdom as a priority
in life,He knows what we have need of before we ask. The Father feeds the birds and
clothes the flowers that are thrown into the fire. Won’t He much more clothe you? He
reprimands us for our little faith. Ecclesiastes 11:10 says banish worry from your heart
and cast off the trouble of your body for youth and vigor are meaningless. When Mary
and Martha were hosting a gathering with Jesus being there and speaking, Martha was
worried about doing all the work and Mary not helping her. Jesus answered her and said
Mary has chosen the better thing, for she sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to what He said.
He acknowledged that Martha was upset and worried over many things, but only one
thing was needed. That’s what Mary was doing,Luke 10:38-42. When we get anxious over
what we’ll say in certain situations Jesus rebukes us and tells us the Holy Spirit will teach
you “at that time” what you should say. We’re not given the words ahead of time but
only “at that time”. We must walk and as we’re walking we’ll be given direction, Luke
12:11-12. Luke 21:34 says be careful or your hearts will be weighed down with, among
other things, the anxieties of life. He was speaking of the day He will come back. We
could miss it if we’re not putting Him first above all of life’s worries. Be always
watchful and praying so that day does not take you by surprise. Worry about one thing
only. Who is your king? Who’s #1? Are you or is it Jesus? Trust Jesus to be King of your
life and you’ll have settled the age old question.
This is the only question that really matters. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and
humble yourself before Him. If you pray this prayer of relinquishment let Rita S. know.
She’ll be honored to welcome you into the family of God!
